The tender process for the Sydney Metro Hunter Street Station development is getting underway with Registrations of Interest commencing.

The new station and precinct are going to be delivered through the Hunter Street Precinct Development Partner Model, which presents a new opportunity for businesses, industry as well as community.

In a statement, Sydney Metro said: “Hunter Street Station will revitalise Sydney’s northern CBD and become a gateway to jobs, business and tourism and a catalyst for economic recovery.

“As one of the jewels in the crown of the city-shaping Sydney Metro West project, economic, community and placemaking outcomes will be put at the forefront of the new station’s design and delivery.”

For this project, bidders need to show how they will improve the local area as well as how they will create a precinct and a ‘sense of place’.

Registrations of Interest will run until 4th March and interested parties can view all information on the NSW Government eTendering page here.

Once the new Hunter Street Station is up and running, commuters will be able to travel from Parramatta to Hunter Street in about 20 minutes. Passengers will be getting off the train to an “integrated, world-class transport hub” that will transform this area of the CBD.

“The NSW Government has launched an industry engagement process to deliver the new Hunter Street Station and the world-class jobs, economic and tourism precinct around the new Sydney CBD metro station.

“Key industry players have been briefed about the potential for re-shaping the area through the Hunter Street Precinct Development Partner Model. Sydney Metro is calling for their ideas and input into creating a world-class transport hub,” Sydney Metro said in a statement.

The Hunter Street Station will provide an integrated transport hub that will connect Wynyard to Martin Place via underground links and will also provide an interchange between Sydney Trains, Sydney Metro, light rail and buses.

Sydney Metro will continue working with landowners as well as developers and integrators in order to deliver the best outcome for the project.

The new Hunter Street Station and Precinct project will include:

  • An underground station
  • Underground connections to Wynyard, Martin Place and Barangaroo stations
  • Two over station developments (OSD) buildings over the east and west station entries
