Works now underway on $140m Atlas Gas Pipeline Project in QLD

Construction is now underway on the Atlas Gas Pipeline Project located about 20 kilometres south-west of Wandoan in Queensland. This project is being delivered Jemena and Senex Energy together with construction partners Valmec and Spiecapag.

“The start of pipeline construction works by Jemena is an important milestone in delivering much-needed natural gas to the east-coast market,” Senex Energy Managing Director and CEO Ian Davies said.

The Atlas Gas Pipeline Project is comprised of a 60-kilometre long, 8-inch steel-coated buried pipeline and a compressor station which will connect gas from Senex Energy’s Atlas Gas Field via the Wallumbilla Gas Hub to the east-coast gas market.

Valmec will be building the compressor station while Spiecapag will deliver the gas pipeline.

This project is set to become the State’s first domestic-only gas supply, with all gas to be provided for the domestic market.

“We are currently in the early stages of construction, with around 90 people on site conducting clear and grade and stringing activities, and we expect this work to ramp up quickly over the coming weeks.

“The Atlas pipeline and processing facility have been designed to enable further expansion once additional gas reserves become available from the Atlas production area,” Jemena’s Executive General Manager of Gas Markets Antoon Boey said.

The $140 million project is due for completion and first gas pour by the end of 2019. Construction is anticipated to support up to 150 to 200 jobs in Queensland.
