Tenders released to market for $187.2m NSW Parkes Bypass project

The jointly funded $187.2 million Parkes Bypass in New South Wales marks a new major milestone with tenders for a major construction partner now out to market. 

The tenders are open for submissions for eight weeks, allowing for the best proposals to be sent in. 

“We know how important this bypass will be for the community at Parkes and for the thousands of vehicles that travel along the Newell Highway everyday – that is why we have committed $149.7 million of Commonwealth funding. 

“It will be a game-changer for the region and today it is one step closer to being delivered,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said. 

To help maximise opportunities for work on this significant transport infrastructure project, an information session is going to be held for local contractors and suppliers where they can meet prospective tenderers. 

“We want to ensure the community is benefitting from the project before a single vehicle uses the bypass by linking local businesses employing qualified tradespeople with this game-changing road project. 

“The Parkes Bypass is not only going to deliver safer and better journeys for motorists on the Newell Highway, it's also going to inject million in economic activity into Parkes, helping build a safer and stronger region,” NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said. 

The main construction contract is anticipated to be awarded prior to works commencing, which is scheduled before the end of this year.

The Parkes Bypass is going to be a two-lane 10.5-kilometre stretch of road and the multi-million-dollar project will feature: 

• Two T-intersections, north and south between the existing Newell Highway and the bypass 
• A split T-intersection at London Road 
• A four-way roundabout at Condobolin Road 
• A T-intersection with Bogan Road 
• Two bridges – one over two rail lines and Hartigan Avenue and another over the Bypass on Victoria Street 
• An extension of Hartigan Avenue (Henry Parkes Way) with intersection with Brolgan Road, Billy Mac Place and Condobolin Road 
• Realignment, reconfiguration and changes to local roads, including shifting part of Moulden Street to the west; Maguire Road and Nock Road converted to cul-de-sacs; new connection between Brolgan Road and Hartigan Avenue; and connection between Thomas Street and Mitchell Street via the Reedsdale Road extension 
• A new shared path for pedestrians and cyclists which will connect Brolgan Road, Condobolin Road and Victoria Street 

The Parkes Bypass is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales Governments, each contributing $149.7 million and $37.4 million respectively.
