More works under Tasmanian Liberal Government’s South East Traffic Solution are set to get underway later this year, with tenders now open for submission for the Midway Point Intersection Solution.
This project is part of an $1.8 billion investment that will get works going on job-creating infrastructure developments across the State, which has an estimated construction value of approximately $3.1 billion.
“We are now on the road to recovery, and this is one of our key infrastructure projects, to stimulate the economy, keep Tasmanians in work, and make our roads safer,” Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael Ferguson said.
The Midway Point Intersection Solution will include:
“The Midway Point roundabout is currently operating near capacity, and this project will replace it with traffic signals, improving the flow of traffic through Midway Point.
“This project will make it quicker for traffic to move through the intersection and provide safe access to the highway from Midway Point,” Minister Ferguson said.

The tender process is open for all pre-qualified contractors, and is open for submissions until 26 August.
The South East Traffic Solution is jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments and it is part of the Roads of Strategic Importance initiative. This traffic solution is comprised of infrastructure projects on the Tasman Highway between the Hobart Airport and Sorell as well as on the Arthur Highway, south of Iron Creek Bridge.
“This package of works is progressing well and will benefit Tasmanians for generations. Construction of the first South East Traffic Solution project, the Arthur Highway overtaking lane, was completed in February, and early site preparation works are now underway at the Hobart Airport Interchange,” Minister Ferguson said.
Construction on the Midway Point intersection Solution is anticipated to begin in October 2020.

The duplication of the Tasman Highway causeways as well as the construction of a new bridge are now fully funded after the Australian Government commits $150 million and the Tasmanian Government adding $37 million to deliver these South East Traffic Solution projects.
Construction is due to commence in the coming months on Tasmania’s largest ever infrastructure project – the $786 million New Bridgewater Bridge Project – as early works progress on site.
The Tasman Bridge in Tasmania is a step closer to receiving its first major upgrade since it was built in 1975 following the release of concept plans for public comment for the project.
