As part of the final stages of planning for an upgrade to Mulgoa Road between Glenmore Parkway and Union Road, Transport for NSW is now seeking feedback from the community on the project’s Review of Environmental Factors (REF).

The REF highlights the plan on how to manage issues such as stormwater management, noise and vegetation. Also outlined in the REF are the community benefits, which include new shared user paths for cyclists and pedestrians as well as new bus infrastructure.

The planned upgrade will span 6.53 kilometres along Mulgoa Road between Glenmore Parkway in Glenmore Park and Union Road in Penrith.

Transport for NSW is encouraging the community to have their say on the project’s REF. More information on how to provide feedback can be found here.

In a statement, Transport for NSW said: “The upgrade will complement other works including upgrades from Union Road to Museum Drive which is now open to traffic and construction along Mulgoa Road, Jamisontown which is expected to commence in late 2022.

“This upgrade is part of the NSW Government’s wider commitment to improve traffic flows in and around Western Sydney to meet the needs of the growing community.”

As a major north-south corridor, Mulgoa Road caters to about 2,500 vehicles an hour during peak times. Some temporary disruptions might be seen during the construction of the project, but rest assured that major works are planned to avoid peak hour traffic and property access along the project route is maintained.

This Mulgoa Road upgrade is estimated to create up to 500 jobs during its construction phase.

The planned widening and upgrade of Mulgoa Road is going to be delivered in stages:

  • Stage 5A – Blaikie Road to Jamison Road, Penrith
  • Stage 5B – Jamison Road to Union Road, Penrith
