Works will soon get underway to widen the M7 Motorway at Eastern Creek on the approaches to the Light Horse Interchange, taking about two years to complete.
This upgrade, to be delivered as part of the $1.7 billion M7-M12 Integration Project, will add a new north and southbound lane to the M7 Motorway between the M5, Prestons and Richmond Road, Glendenning/Oakhurst to help reduce congestion and improve travel times along this route.
To enable works to be carried out, several red markers that form part of the Australian Light Horse Sculpture Parade at the interchange with the M4 Motorway and Wallgrove Road will have to be temporarily removed and safely stored.
The temporary removal of these red markers was planned in consultation with Veteran Groups.
The M7 Motorway median is expected to be narrowed due to the upgrade and every attempt will be made to return the sculpture poles to as close to their original positions as possible once the upgrade is completed.
To minimise disruption to motorists, work will be scheduled at nighttime where possible.
Works will also include tree removal before the area is landscaped upon the upgrade's completion in 2026.
The overall M7-M12 Integration Project will widen the M7 and deliver a seamless connection to the 16-kilometre M12 Motorway, providing direct access to the new Western Sydney International Airport.
