Kerman Contracting wins $23.5m contract to build WA lithium facility

Talison Lithium has awarded Kerman Contracting with a $23.5 million contract to build a new bulk storage facility that will be located at the inner harbour of Bunbury Port in Western Australia.

“We are very pleased to secure this construction contract directly with Talison Lithium and it complements our company’s strong focus on the significant expansion of the Lithium Industry in Western Australia,” Kerman Contracting Managing Director Chris Kerman said.

The project will comprise of a new 50,000-tonne capacity bulk storage facility with associated inload and outload material handling circuits.

Once the new facility is completed, it will be able to supplement Talison’s existing storage facility at the port which supports the increased production brought about by the expansion of mining facilities at the Greenbushes mine.

The new bulk storage facility - together with the existing facility - will be storing Spodumene concentrate before it is loaded onto bulk ships via the port’s existing ship loader.

“Obviously we will be looking at someone for the mechanical parts and also the steel work, cladding, electrical and all those elements of the project.

“They will all potentially be sourced locally as much as we can to help out those in the region,” Kerman Contracting Business Development Director James Rowdon said.

Construction of the new bulk storage facility is in its early stages, with completion expected by October 2019.
