Jobs created for new $80m gas pipeline project in southern QLD

One of Australia’s largest natural gas infrastructure businesses, APA has announced a new $80 million gas pipeline project in southern Queensland. APA will be creating a 50-kilometre bi-directional pipeline which will be linking APA’s Wallumbilla Hub to the Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) Pipeline at Reedy Creek.

State Development Minister Anthony Lynham highlighted that this project will be creating more employment opportunities for the entire duration of the project.

“The construction of this pipeline is great news for jobs."

“With construction to start in 2017, the project is estimated to create 170 jobs including 20 permanent jobs within land access, approvals, technical design and procurement teams and 100 to 150 jobs for the construction phase of the project,” Minister Lynham said.

According to Minister Lynham, the new pipeline will give APLNG the flexibility to distribute gas either to Gladstone for export LNG production, or to the domestic gas market directly. He also said that the Department of Resources and Mines is currently assessing the application for a petroleum survey license from APA.

“My Department of Natural Resources and Mines is currently assessing APA’s application for a petroleum survey license as the first step to investigating various alternative pipeline routes between the existing facilities.”.

Construction on the pipeline is expected to begin in 2017 and to be completed by mid-2018.
