Construction underway on QLD's $27.8m Green Camp Road corridor upgrade

Works are now underway on the $27.8 million Green Camp Road corridor upgrade in Queensland that will help reduce congestion as well as improve safety for cyclists, motorists and public transport users.

This upgrade will include widening Green Camp Road to a minimum of four lanes. This will enable residents to get home safer and quicker as well as provide more travel options to motorists.

“In addition to widening the corridor, the project will deliver major upgrades to intersections at Green Camp Road and Tilley Road, as well as at Green Camp Road and Rickertt Road,” Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said.

The Australian Government has invested approximately $10 million towards this upgrade, forming a part of a $75 billion investment in key infrastructures - including over $20 billion for Queensland.

This multi-million dollar project will include:

• Two through lanes in each direction on Green Camp Road from Manly Road to about 180 metres past the Rickertt Road intersection
• THree through lanes on Green Camp Road northbound adjacent the Tilley Road intersection
• Signalising Green Camp Road and Tilley Road intersection and widening Tilley Road approach to provide a left-turn lane and a right-turn lane
• Two through lanes on Rickertt Road in each direction for 200 metres from the Green Camp Road intersection
• Widening Rickertt Road approach to have a separate left-turn lane and two right-turn lanes
• Raising the road and upgrading the existing culverts under Green Camp Road and Tilley Road intersection to improve drainage and flood immunity
• Providing on-road cycling lanes and off-road shared paths
• Fauna crossing facilities, fencing and wildlife awareness zones
• Improved pedestrian footpath connections
• A new car park 250 metres north of Green Camp Road and Tilley Road intersection
• Landscaping treatments

“This upgrade will offer immediate benefits to all road users, as well as future-proofing the corridor by delivering the infrastructure needed for the growing Brisbane region,” Federal minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities Paul Fletcher said.

Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta said that the intersections at Rickertt Road and Tilley Road have been operating above capacity, which led to serious traffic incidents.

“This upgrade will improve safety with signalisation at these traffic blackspots, reducing the risk of serious traffic incidents for daily road users.

“Motorists will also benefit from travel time savings in the morning and afternoons,” Mr Vasta said.

This project will not only be a benefit for Brisbane residents, but will also benefit Redland City locals according to Federal Member for Bowman Andrew Laming.

Mr Laming added: “This partnership between Canberra and Brisbane City Council is addressing a massive economic bottleneck and I’m delighted this high-quality project will expand the capacity of Green Camp Road, to benefit businesses and residents.”

Construction on the Green Camp Road corridor will mean a number of traffic changes to be implemented along the route. Tilley Road will be temporarily closed for several months later this year - adjacent Green Camp Road - in order to facilitate structural works at the intersection.

“Residents will be notified well in advance of the closure, and the temporary measure will allow Council to deliver this upgrade more quickly, and reduce impacts to the local community,” Doboy Ward Councillor Ryan Murphy said.

The upgrade on the Green Camp Road corridor is expected to be completed by mid-2019, weather and construction conditions permitting.
