The Victorian Government is now in search of a consortium to design, construct, finance and maintain the new Melton Hospital, with Expressions of Interest already open for submission.

Through the Victorian Budget 2022/23, the State Government has invested more than $900 million towards the delivery of the new health facility that will support the growing needs of the local community in Melbourne’s outer west.

The new Melton Hospital is set to become the State’s first hospital to be fully powered by renewable energy.

The new hospital will feature:

  • A 24-hour emergency department
  • At least 274 beds
  • An intensive care unit
  • Maternity and neonatal services
  • Mental health services
  • Radiology services
  • Outpatient care

“We’re getting on with delivering a new 24-hour public hospital in Melton so locals can get the very best care, closer to home – when they need it most.

“Melton is one of the fastest growing communities in Australia and that’s why we’re building a world-class hospital and finding the right consortium to get it done,” Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas said.

This project is expected to create more than 2,00 jobs during its construction phase.

Once completed, the new Melton Hospital will have the capacity to treat up to 130,000 patients annually and see about 60,000 patients in the emergency department alone.

The State Government is looking for candidates from suitably qualified and experienced consortia who have the capability and vision to deliver the project.

Expressions of Interest is open for submission until 2 March 2023. For more information on the tender, you can check Buying for Victoria – Tenders here.

A shortlist of consortia will be invited to prepare detailed proposals for the delivery of the new Melton Hospital later this year before a preferred bidder is appointed.

The Community Consultative Committee will meet for the first time this month, providing the community to get involved in shaping the project. The Committee will continue engaging with the community over the coming months to “provide input to the hospital’s look, feel and community aspirations”.

“This landmark hospital will transform Melton and our surrounding suburbs, located close to public transport, the Western Freeway and recreational facilities – making it easier for patients to access.

“I’m looking forward to working with our Community Consultative Committee to ensure this massive community asset reflects the needs and diversity of the outer western community it’s serving,” Member for Melton Steve McGhie said.

The new Melton Hospital is going to be delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, in partnership with Western Health who will operate the new health facility.

Enabling works are already underway and major construction on the project is anticipated to commence in 2024.

The new Melton Hospital is due to open its doors in 2029.
