$700m new Rouse Hill Hospital a step closer to construction, supporting 1200 jobs

Western Sydney will soon see its first major adult hospital built in over 40 years, and the community can now have a glimpse of the future Rouse Hill Hospital with the release of artist’s impressions. 

The $700 million Rouse Hill Hospital project will deliver much-needed contemporary healthcare facilities that the growing North West community deserves, with thousands of families moving into the region and the Blacktown Local Government Area (LGA) alone expected to see a population growth of up to 500,000 by 2041. 

The new Rouse Hill Hospital will be one of the first to adopt the New South Wales Government’s full campus model, which incorporates health worker accommodation and childcare services. 

“Everyone deserves world class healthcare no matter where you live and we are committed to delivering that,” Premier Chris Minns said. 

“We are committed to providing an additional 600 hospital beds for Western Sydney, and the new Rouse Hill Hospital will account for about half of this. 

“It’s vitally important this new facility is staffed with the right number of doctors, nurses, allied health staff from the beginning, we’ll be integrating ley worker accommodation and childcare to support our highly skilled workforce in the years to come,” Minister for Health Ryan Park said.

The new hospital will bring vital healthcare services closer to communities around Rouse Hill, Tallawong, Schofields, The ponds, North Kellyville, Riverstone and Marsden Park. 

The recently released artist’s impressions for the project show the concept for the new Rouse Hill Hospital, including a welcoming main entry, wards with views of the mountains, and a multi-storey car park – all in close proximity to public transport. 

The designs also feature outpatient clinics, visitor services and retail at lower levels surrounding an external covered walkway and landscaped spaces for a community-focused environment. 

Through the planning and design phase, the scope of the project has been confirmed to include: 

• An Emergency and Urgent Care Department 
• In-patient beds 
• Day surgery unit 
• Short stay medical assessment services 
• Pathology, pharmacy, and medical imaging services 
• Outpatient and Ambulatory Care services including paediatrics, renal, and women’s health, including antenatal and postnatal services 
• A health hub for virtual care and hospital in the home services 
• Prehabilitation, rehabilitation, and lifestyle medicine 
• Administration, staff support and back of house services 
• Car parking facilities 

Project planning and design are progressing well, with community feedback being considered ahead of further consultation with health professionals and the community later this year. 

“The new Rouse Hill Hospital will demonstrate new ways of integrating hospital services with urgent care and preventative services to keep people well and preferably out of hospital, thereby reducing the amount of time patients need to spend in hospital when they require care. 

“We’re so proud to be developing this new project, and to be involving our nurses, doctors, allied health and support staff in the planning for the new facilities. 

“Meeting with members of the Western Sydney community for feedback has shown the great interest in this new facility and we look forward to ongoing collaboration as we build this hospital of the future,” Western Sydney Local Health District Chief Executive Graeme Loy said.

This project will not only provide essential healthcare services closer to home, but it will also support up to 1,200 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs during its construction phase. 

This project is part of the State Government’s $3 billion investment in new and upgraded hospitals and health services across greater Western Sydney. 

“Rouse Hill and northwest Sydney is home to a growing number of young families and the new Rouse Hill Hospital will provide world-class care and great jobs opportunities right on their doorstep. 

“The new Rouse Hill Hospital will provide a significant boost to the economy during and after construction,” Member for Riverstone Warren Kirby said.
