An agreement between the Australian and Western Australian Governments has been reached for a $2.3 billion road and rail infrastructure package for the State.
This agreement will provide a major boost to the State’s local economy, with approximately 6,000 jobs to be generated by 17 new projects.
The Australian Government has invested $1.6 billion to this package, whereas the State Government has invested $745 million.
The WA Infrastructure Package will include:
A combined $1.2 billion will also be allocated towards the Western Australian Government’s METRONET project, and it will include $700 million from the Federal Government – still subject to positive business cases – which will go towards future METRONET project such as the Thornlie and Yanchep line extensions. A further $86 million will be invested on other METRONET related project as well.
“We recognise the priorities of the WA State Government and will work with them to deliver high quality outcomes for Western Australia.
“In particular, the State Government’s METRONET initiative fits in well with my Government’s Smart Cities agenda, and we will continue to work with the Premier and his team to make it happen,” said Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
According to Premier Mark McGowan, this road and rail infrastructure package will help ease congestion as well as improve road safety and connectivity across Perth and the State.
“This package will deliver a significant jobs boost across Western Australia.
“We’re getting on with the job and delivering on our promises to the people of Western Australia, delivering new job creating and congestion busting projects,” the Premier said.
